5 OF THE BEST OILS FOR NATURAL HAIR

As a natural girl, I’m pretty sure we all know the importance of oil on our hair.  I use oils on my hair for pre-pooing, deep conditioning, scalp massages and to seal in moisture.

5 of the Best Oils for Natural Hair

GRAPESEED OIL

Grapeseed oil is very lightweight, so it does not weigh your hair down. Grapeseed oil is high in linoleic acid which is a type of omega-6 fatty acid and rich in antioxidants.  It is also rich in Vitamin E, which is essential for hair growth. This oil helps to strengthen your hair from root to tip.  One of the reason’s I love using grapeseed oil is because it does not leave my hair feeling greasy and weighed down.

As I stated in a previous post, I use this oil on my body as well. (You can read that article here). Because it is so lightweight, it absorbs into my skin well and does not leave me with a greasy after feel.

COCONUT OIL

Coconut oil is rich in both Vitamin E and Lauric Acid. This oil does a good job of penetrating your hair shaft. Coconut oil helps to reduce your hair’s frizz and add sheen.  I also love Coconut oil on my skin as well.  This oil is a staple for both my hair and body and my son as well.

OLIVE OIL

Olive oil is a heavier oil that does a great job of penetrating the shaft of your hair. This oil is rich in fatty acids that coat your hair shaft.  It does a great job of sealing the hair and will help to reduce frizz.

CASTOR OIL

Castor oil is a bit of a heavy oil comprised of ricinoleic acid and fatty acids.  Castor oil is well known for helping to grow your hair.  When massaged into your scalp it helps to improve your circulation, which in turn strengthens the roots of the hair and nourishes the hair-shaft, promoting new hair growth and strengthening current hair. This oil is also good for sealing your hair.

JOJOBA OIL

Jojoba oil is high in monounsaturated fatty acids, Vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, and E. It is the only oil whose molecular structure is similar to sebum (the oil that the scalp naturally produces).  Because of its antibacterial properties, it helps to soothe your scalp and can be used to treat dry scalp problems and dandruff. This oil is also good at helping to repair hair damaged by heat and styling.

CREME OF NATURE ARGAN OIL REVIEW

I have a long relationship with Creme of Nature hair products, as they were one of my favorite hair care product lines back when I was addicted to the “creamy crack.”  When shopping for natural hair products, I would tend to overlook this particular line.  I think I skipped over them because I was used to using their products on my relaxed hair, and didn’t think I could achieve satisfactory results with my natural hair.  After seeing several naturalista’s on my Instagram feed speaking positively about Creme of Nature Argan Oil, I decided I would give them a try.

CREME OF NATURE ARGAN OIL PRODUCTS

I spent quite a bit of time on the aisle looking over their assortment of products.  I finally settled on the Intensive Conditioning Treatment, Strength and Shine Leave-In Conditioner and Pudding Perfection Curl Enhancing Creme.

What does the product promise to do?  Take your curls on an exotic journey with our amazing curl-enhancing formulas designed for curls, coils, kinks, and waves. No frizz. No shrinkage. No dryness.

HOW TO USE:

INTENSIVE CONDITIONING TREATMENT

After shampooing with Creme of Nature® Shampoo, apply a generous amount of  Intensive Conditioning Treatment to hair and comb through for even distribution. Place a plastic cap over the hair and sit under a warm hooded dryer for 10–15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and follow with any Creme of Nature Argan Oil styling product.

SMELL

This line has a strong flowery type smell to it.  The smell however, is not unbearable.

CONSISTENCY

The Intensive Conditioning Treatment has a yogurt like consistency to it.  It is not runny at all.  The Pudding Perfection Creme has a thick, pudding like consistency.

SLIP

This product line provides a great slip when applied to the hair.

PRODUCT APPLICATION

I used these products as a part of my wash and go process. I started with freshly shampooed hair. I then conditioned my hair with the Creme of Nature Intensive Conditioning Treatment. I allowed it to sit on my hair for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, I  rinsed my hair thoroughly.

I then completely saturated my hair with the Creme of Nature Strength and Shine Leave-In Conditioner.

Lastly I applied the Creme of Nature Pudding Perfection Curl Enhancing Creme to my hair in small sections at a time.  Afterwards, I let my hair completely air dry.

RESULTS

Intensive Conditioning Treatment  This conditioner made my hair feel very soft and did a good job of detangling my hair.

Strength and Shine Leave In Conditioner  I didn’t feel that my hair was quite as moisturized using this spray conditioner as it is when I use a cream conditioner.

Pudding Perfection Curl Enhancing Creme did a good job of defining my curls. This creme leaves a soft hold, which I love and I did not experience any flaking.

I was pretty impressed with this line and will be using it for future wash and go’s. My hair feels very soft, and has a nice sheen to it.  The Pudding Perfection gives my hair a nice hold without the crunchiness or flakiness that I tend to experience when using gels. I am definitely adding this to my hair care arsenal. The only thing I will be changing is the leave in conditioner. I prefer a cream, as I believe a cream does a better job of moisturizing my hair, as opposed to a spray.

Have you tried this Creme of Nature Argan Oil line?  What are your thoughts?  Let’s discuss in the comments.
