So, I am finally getting around to doing a review of my June Birchbox. This is the third box that I have received, and thus far, I have not been impressed. I received July’s box on today, but have not opened it as of yet. If I am not impressed with the items in my July box, I am seriously considering canceling my subscription and switching to Ipsy. I kinda subscribed on a whim and I am starting to regret my decision. I was leaning toward Ipsy but decided to go with Birchbox. I have gotten some really good reviews from people who are subscribed to Ipsy, so I really think I want to give them a try. Anyway, we will see how things go.
This month’s box was all about products to help you put your best face forward. It included facial moisturizer, an eye shadow stick, brow pencil, perfume and scalp oil.
Marcelle Hydra-C 24H Energizing Hydrating Gel
“Enriched with green tea, cucumber, and vitamins C & E, this moisturizer hydrates skin while providing pollutant protection.”
I used this moisturizer daily for three days. This gel did very little in terms of hydrating my skin. I have somewhat sensitive skin, and therefore am a bit leery of trying new things, but this product did not cause any breakouts. I am not too fond of gel moisturizers anyway, and this one was really nothing to write home about.
Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris
A fragrance from designer Catherine Malandrino “mixes summer fruits and florals for an elegant vibe.”
This perfume has a light, citrusy scent to it. It certainly wouldn’t be my top choice as far as perfumes go, but it has a nice scent. It was not very long wearing, as the scent seemed to fade rather quickly.
Benefit Cosmetics Goof Proof Brown Pencil
“This waterproof pencil grabs onto brow hairs to create natural-looking definition.”
I really like this brow pencil. The angled tip makes application very easy, and it is waterproof. It did a great job of holding up in this summer heat. I was really impressed with this pencil and may actually purchase it.
Earth’s Nectar Green Olive and Lavender Scalp Oil
“This soothing scalp treatment busts buildup and relieves irritation.”
I liked the scent of this oil, and the lavender was not overpowering. I think it would be a good oil for scalp massages. I liked that the oil penetrated my scalp easily and was not too heavy on my hair or scalp.
Manna Kadar Cosmetics Eye Candy Priming Shadow Stick
“This two-in-one shadow stick offers high-pigment with comfortable wear.”
This shadow stick arrived broken and was smashed against the top of the cap. After trying it out, it applies smoothly, but it is a bit too shimmery for my taste. I’m not much of a fan of shimmery eyeshadows.
As I mentioned earlier, I have not really been all that impressed with the items I have been receiving in my monthly box. I am still on the fence but will be making a decision as to whether or not I will cancel after opening this month’s (July) box.
