No finances for a vacation this year? Well, how about a staycation. What if I told you that you don’t have to leave your home town in order to have a relaxing and fun-filled vacation this summer.  There are plenty of things to do in your city or neighborhood.

How about doing something a little bit different this year by planning a staycation.  With a little bit of creativity, you and the family can become tourists in your own town.

A staycation will allow you to save money, sleep in your own bed, and spend quality time with your family or friends all while having fun.

Here are some ideas to help get you started:

Find A Local Beach

Fun Summer Staycation Ideas for Your Family

You don’t have to be in the Caribbean to enjoy the beach. Visit a local beach in your area and become “beach bums” for a day.

Visit a National Park

National parks offer a variety of family friendly activities to choose from.  Most park fees are nominal, but you can also check out this page to find free entrance days.

Check your local newspaper or theater website to see what plays, musicals, concerts, or family-friendly comedy shows will be playing during your planned staycation, then book your tickets accordingly.

Visit a Nearby Amusement Park

Enjoy a fun-filled day of rides at a nearby amusement park.  Check out this list to find an amusement park in your own state or town.

Take a Virtual Museum Tour

Several museums throughout the country and the world offer “virtual” tours.  There are several that you can choose from, including the Smithsonian Natural History Museum, the Boston Children’s Museum, or even visit the Louvre in Paris.

Check out the Local Library

Most libraries have family-friendly events and activities happening every weekend.  I got my son his very first library card this summer. Check your local library’s website for details.

Visit a Local Children’s Museum

A Children’s Museum is definitely in order if you have younger kids. Most have a variety of fun and interactive activities that will keep you busy the whole day.  Check out the Association of Children’s Museums website to find one in your area.

Visit the Zoo or Aquarium

Are you an animal lover?  Why not pack up a lunch and spend the day at the zoo with the fam.  Check out the Association of Zoos & Aquariums to find a zoo or aquarium in your area, then be sure to also check what special programs your zoo have available.

Go Bowling

Enjoy a game of bowling with your kids. If your kiddos are small, try bumper bowling.  Many bowling alleys around the country even participate in a free bowling program that allows kids to bowl free and parents to join them for just a few dollars more.

Camp in Your Own Backyard

Why not enjoy the great outdoors in your own backyard?  Set up a tent and sleeping bags, light the fire pit (or use your grill) to cook hot dogs and s’mores, and take turns telling funny or scary stories.

Go Boating

If there is a river or lake near you, chances are pretty good there is also a paddleboard or canoe rental facility nearby as well.   Both are a fun way for you to enjoy the water.

Create Your Own Art

Spend an afternoon getting creative at a nearby paint-your-own pottery facility.  Not only is it fun, you’ll have your own gorgeous dishes to take home when you’re done.

Play In the Water

This is one of my family favorites. Spend the day at a local pool or waterpark. You can also turn on the sprinklers in the backyard and have a family water day at home.

Make it a Spa Day

Enjoy a day of pampering by going to your local spa for a massage or a mani/pedi.

Play Outside

Fly a kite, take a leisurely walk, go for a bike ride, or how about a nice hike. Head to your local park (most state and national parks have a few walking, hiking, or biking trails to choose from).  Be sure to pack plenty of water and snacks for everyone.

Break Out the Board Games

A staycation is a perfect time to play all of those epic boardgames you remember from your childhood! Make your favorite family snacks and spend the afternoon playing your favorite games.

The goal of a staycation is to relax and decompress all while having fun.  For a lot of people (moms especially) the hardest part of trying to “relax” at home is letting go of the everyday obligations. Give up the chores for a week, and instead kick back, relax, and enjoy some quality time with your family. Doing so will allow you to create memories that you and your loved ones will cherish for a lifetime.

Have you planned a staycation before?  What are some of the things you love to do with your family? Leave me a comment.

I have a long relationship with Creme of Nature hair products, as they were one of my favorite hair care product lines back when I was addicted to the “creamy crack.”  When shopping for natural hair products, I would tend to overlook this particular line.  I think I skipped over them because I was used to using their products on my relaxed hair, and didn’t think I could achieve satisfactory results with my natural hair.  After seeing several naturalista’s on my Instagram feed speaking positively about Creme of Nature Argan Oil, I decided I would give them a try.

I spent quite a bit of time on the aisle looking over their assortment of products.  I finally settled on the Intensive Conditioning Treatment, Strength and Shine Leave-In Conditioner and Pudding Perfection Curl Enhancing Creme.

What does the product promise to do?  Take your curls on an exotic journey with our amazing curl-enhancing formulas designed for curls, coils, kinks, and waves. No frizz. No shrinkage. No dryness.

After shampooing with Creme of Nature® Shampoo, apply a generous amount of  Intensive Conditioning Treatment to hair and comb through for even distribution. Place a plastic cap over the hair and sit under a warm hooded dryer for 10–15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly and follow with any Creme of Nature Argan Oil styling product.

This Strength and Shine Leave-In Conditioner is a two-phase formula. To activate ingredients, shake conditioner well before using. Spray throughout damp or dry hair as needed. Do not rinse. Style as usual.

Scoop a liberal amount of Pudding Perfection Curl Enhancing Creme into your hand and smooth downward on small sections of damp hair using fingertips. Then twist, shingle, coil or wash and go. Do not rinse. Air dry or diffuse. For curl elongation, use a blow dryer with a nozzle attachment on fully dried hair and direct heat from roots to mid-shaft.

Creme of Nature Argan Oil Review

This line has a strong flowery type smell to it.  The smell however, is not unbearable.

The Intensive Conditioning Treatment has a yogurt like consistency to it.  It is not runny at all.  The Pudding Perfection Creme has a thick, pudding like consistency.

This product line provides a great slip when applied to the hair.

I used these products as a part of my wash and go process. I started with freshly shampooed hair. I then conditioned my hair with the Creme of Nature Intensive Conditioning Treatment. I allowed it to sit on my hair for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, I  rinsed my hair thoroughly.

I then completely saturated my hair with the Creme of Nature Strength and Shine Leave-In Conditioner.

Lastly I applied the Creme of Nature Pudding Perfection Curl Enhancing Creme to my hair in small sections at a time.  Afterwards, I let my hair completely air dry.

Intensive Conditioning Treatment  This conditioner made my hair feel very soft and did a good job of detangling my hair.

Strength and Shine Leave In Conditioner  I didn’t feel that my hair was quite as moisturized using this spray conditioner as it is when I use a cream conditioner.

Pudding Perfection Curl Enhancing Creme did a good job of defining my curls. This creme leaves a soft hold, which I love and I did not experience any flaking.

I was pretty impressed with this line and will be using it for future wash and go’s. My hair feels very soft, and has a nice sheen to it.  The Pudding Perfection gives my hair a nice hold without the crunchiness or flakiness that I tend to experience when using gels. I am definitely adding this to my hair care arsenal. The only thing I will be changing is the leave in conditioner. I prefer a cream, as I believe a cream does a better job of moisturizing my hair, as opposed to a spray.

Have you tried this Creme of Nature Argan Oil line?  What are your thoughts?  Let’s discuss in the comments.

I am a lip gloss lover, and prefer glosses over lipstick. LA Colors Moisturizing Lip Gloss is one of my summer lip gloss favorites. I purchased these goodies at my local Dollar Store for only two dollars.   Even though this is a bargain brand lip gloss, it feels good on my lips and does not give me that icky after taste that I sometimes get from some bargain brands. They are available in six different shades, and comes with a sponge applicator tip. I like that this lip gloss in particular gives me a very sheer coverage, which is perfect for summer,  and it also gives me just the right amount of shine.

I like to use Elf Pout Perfector to add a bit of highlight to my lips. You only need a dab of it in order to add a nice glow to your lips, so don’t over-do it. I use this when I am wearing either lipstick or lip gloss.

In my opinion, this is a great lip gloss for those who appreciate a bargain without having to sacrifice quality. I always have my LA Colors lip gloss and Elf Pout Perfector in my makeup bag.  You never know when you might need a quick touch up.
